Bishop T.D. Jakes’ book “ Re-positioning Yourself” was life-changing for me, so I just had to blog about it. In it, he speaks about trying something new in order to obtain different results in life. Merriam-Webster defines the word “ re position” as: 1) To change the position of 2) To revise the marketing strategy for (a product or a company) so as to increase sales.
For example, former National Football League star Tiki Barber learned how to re position himself late in his short career with the league. He was a running back for the New York Giants from 1997-2006, and although he excelled at the position, his circumstances were the same, he had an issue with dropping the ball. In the football world, that’s known as a fumble. Everyone who’s familiar with the game knows that fumbling is a big no-no, and athletes who are plagued by fumbles are not in the NFL for long. Barber fumbled the ball 6 times in both the 2002 and 2003 seasons (the great running backs only fumble once or twice all season).
But in 2004, after new coach Tom Coughlin taught him to re position the football vertically instead of horizontally, Barber only fumbled twice. He also led the NFL in total yards for the 2004 and 2005 seasons. The conditions he played under never changed; the season still consisted of 16 games, opposing teams still stacked the line to stop him from having big games, and they still tried to strip him of the ball. He changed, and that made all the difference. I’m a football fanatic, so I thought that illustration might help someone. Tiki Barber learned how to effectively re position himself, and so can you. Here’s how:
Put an end to the blame game
Husbands, instead of blaming your wife for your issues, check yourself.
Fathers, don’t complain that your child’s mother won’t let you see him/her. The real question is: have you made an attempt to see and spend time with your child?
Live within your means
Instead of having a five-bedroom house for only three people to live in, sell it and buy a three-bedroom house.
Your situation will not change overnight, but you can change. You may have bad credit, be overweight, and/or may not be able to truly understand your spouse. But if you re position yourself, you will become victorious and the changes you desire will eventually manifest. Keep pushing no matter how awkward you feel. It had to have been awkward for Tiki Barber to relearn how to hold the football, but he still became victorious, and so can you. Whatever your hang-up or issue is, start today. Just re position yourself! We would love to hear from you. Leave us a comment below and subscribe to our mailing list.
